Climate goals

King Cross demonstrates its responsibility towards people, the region, and the environment, today and for future generations. That is why we have been insisting on energy efficiency, proactive environmental protection, alternative energy and sustainable mobility for years. To this end, the company SES (Spar European Shopping Centres), which manages 31 shopping destinations, including the King Cross shopping centre, which it also owns, has set clear climate goals that it aims to achieve by 2050 at the latest.

The glass roof of the center’s corridor allows for a large amount of natural light to enter during the day, greatly reducing the need for artificial lighting

We turn off external and internal lighting 1 hour after the Centre closes – we try to reduce light pollution; therefore, at night, King Cross is discreetly lit only with LED lighting

The heat condition in the Center is optimally adjusted in order to comply with ecological recommendations and achieve maximum comfort for visitors and employees

King Cross is a proud member of the ZelEn community, which further encourages an ecological approach to production

King Cross received the ZelEn certificate for using a unique product that was first offered on the Croatian market by HEP Opskrba: a green energy obtained exclusively from renewable energy sources. Proof of obtaining electricity from renewable sources is proven by canceling a sufficient number of guarantees of origin of electricity in the register of guarantees of origin of electricity maintained by HROTE (Croatian Energy Market Operator).

King Cross is the winner of the TÜV AUSTRIA certificate for the implementation of the highest hygiene standards

Hygiene and safety have always been a top priority at KING CROSS. Taking into account all the measures and regulations that were in force during the global COVID-19 pandemic, we additionally raised the current hygiene standards – the hygiene concept at King Cross is certified according to the hygiene management standard of TÜV AUSTRIA, an internationally active and leading control and inspection service.

Mobility and accessibility

By car, bus, bicycle or car sharing

Nextbike bicycles, as well as Avant2Go car sharing, are available at the King Cross location. Using both systems is very simple – first log in to the system via the apps, then select a bicycle if it’s Nextbike or a car if it’s Avant2Go and you’re ready to ride!

Public transport is also available from the Črnomerec and Remiza roundabouts – buses. The bus stops named “King Cross” are located in the immediate vicinity of the roundabout on Škorpikova Street (north of the roundabout).

A modern and fully digital car sharing service is located in the parking lot in front of King Cross. Vehicles from the Avant2Go fleet are 100% electric.

Our tenant partners also take care of sustainability. Shops, restaurants and service providers in King Cross carry out various activities and initiatives that contribute to a sustainable future.

Interspar

It regularly works on replacing packaging with more environmentally friendly variants and is constantly looking for the best possible ecological solutions. Thus, wooden cutlery was introduced in the range for the sale of ready-made meals. The biggest step forward was made in the bag category, where the offer for customers includes only bags made of at least 80% recycled plastic. Special attention is also paid to waste disposal, and waste is separated and recycled in order to create as little mixed municipal waste as possible, and more separated waste that can be reused. Visitors to the center can also return plastic packaging at Interspar.

JYSK

As a large international company, JYSK is aware that its activities and actions have an impact on the environment and that it therefore has a great responsibility. Their responsibility is not limited to their employees. It is crucial that you, as a customer, feel safe knowing that the products you buy from JYSK are produced with respect for people, animals, and the environment. Their Supplier Code of Conduct must be accepted and adhered to by all suppliers, and contains rules and guidelines for environmental protection, climate protection, animal protection, product safety, and the improvement of ethical and social conditions.

Decathlon

From Decathlon comes the eco-design initiative, which aims to reduce the environmental impact of products. They achieve this in two ways: by using materials from sustainable sources – recycled cotton and recycled plastic, and by using production processes that have a lower impact on the environment. Eco-designed products represent only a part of the Decathlon offer, and they have committed themselves to extending this approach to the entire offer by 2026.

Social responsibility

SES is committed to environmentally friendly operations and resource conservation at each of its 31 shopping destinations it manages, and has been actively working to reduce energy consumption for years.
